Well, this weekend was our long weekend in Canada.  While most adventured out for their first camping trip of the year, I was bunkered down in my basement dealing with my home server that kicked the bucket.  Even though this is not the most enjoyable activity I could think of spending my long weekend doing, things could have been much worse.  I had to reinstall my operating system and all of my programs, which takes time, but thanks to Carbonite, I didn’t lose any data at all.

This is a major save.  All of our digital pictures and camcorder videos were on the hard drive that failed.  After reinstalling my operating system and programs, I simply installed the Carbonite software and entered my account information.  The Carbonite software then connected to the Carbonite server and syncronized all of my personal files back into the same folders they were original located in.  This is the first time that I needed to use the service for a recovery and I must say that it was very painless and easy.

I initially signed up for the service in case there was a fire or even worse my server was stolen but we should never forget that computer hardware does fail once in awhile and this solution for backup is much cheaper and more efficient that buying backup hard drives to duplicate every on.

You can click the picture below and be taken directly to Carbonite’s website.  Best of all, they offer a Free 15 Day Trial (and they don’t even ask you for a Credit Card) so you can see how easy their service is for yourself.  Take my word for it, when your computer crashes it isn’t a good feeling but at least you can rest easy knowing all of your personal files are safely backed up.

Another great service that friend and associates of mine has used is Mozy. They have been in the online backup game longer than Carbonite and some prefer it more. You can visit them by clicking their link below.

I would be interested hearing your testimonial about Carbonite or Mozy once you sign up.  Please drop me a quick email to let me know your thoughts.

Sincerely,
Paul Butland
